Fluoride varnish and dental sealants are the two highest-leverage preventive tools we have for children — and, increasingly, for adults at elevated caries risk.
Sealants are a thin resin coating painted into the deep grooves of molars, stopping food and bacteria from settling in. Fluoride varnish remineralizes vulnerable enamel. Together, they can prevent the majority of childhood cavities.
